Fixed Odds Trading Tip – AUD/USD One Touch Bet

AUD/USD - Daily Candle Chart One Touch 11th February 2010

For fixed odds trading this morning the currency to watch is the Aussie Dollar, which is already up by 1.5% in early trading, with the Aussie vs Yen also up by a similar percentage at 1.30%. This dramatic move has also helped to drag the New Zealand dollar to the upside, with the NZD/USD currency trading up by 0.75%. The reason for the move higher was the release overnight of the Australian employment data, which came in well ahead of forecast at 52.7, and exceeding analysts forecasts of 15.1 by some margin. This news coupled with the recent move by the Australian Government to remove its guarantee of banking deposits. has been seen by the markets as a signal that the worst of the recession is now over, and the these two news items have combined to produce the surge higher seen in the currency markets today. Whilst the AUD/USD remain well below the highs of 2009, this is nevertheless and encouraging signal for AUD/USD bulls, and my fixed odds trading tip for today is to bet that this pair will achieve a price of 0.94 in the next 55 days. Aussie Dollar vs Japanese Yen - Daily Chart 23rd July 2009

It’s another flat opening for the FTSE, CAC and DAX this morning as the excitement over renewed bank profits start to subside. The US earnings season continues to roll on and so far the period has passed without any landmines going off. Unfortunately, it appears that Goldman Sachs got the earnings season off to such a spectacular start that reactions to positive reports such as Apple have been muted. Earnings season gives investors a chance to assess the overall profitability of US stocks and as European stock markets usually follow the American lead, the results can have global implications. The so called Big Mac indicator will be put to test today with McDonald’s releasing their results before the US open. After the close of US markets we have results from other another global behemoth, Microsoft. At 08.30 GMT we have UK retail sales followed by US unemployment claims at 12.30. The afternoon brings US existing home sales at 14.00 and a Bank of Canada monetary policy report at 14.30.

My Fixed Odds Bet

The Yen is being hit hard in early trading as investors look elsewhere for better returns. The biggest moves have been on the GBP/ JPY, EUR/JPY and the AUD/ JPY in particular. Investors are looking particularly attracted by the higher yields available with Australian securities. This makes the AUD/JPY today’s pair in play. Currently trading around 77.20, the AUD/JPY has recently had a habit of reversing gains made in early trading. A good way to play this might be a ‘Double Trades’ predicting that the AUD/JPY will fall today. Double Trades always return 100% if correct.

Pound vs Dollar - Daily Candle Chart 17th July 2009

It’s been a good start to the day for the FTSE, CAC and DAX. This is largely down to a final hour surge in US markets last night with the European indices playing catch up this morning. Speculators rushed to take a position in Google last night ahead of their earnings announcement after JP Morgan beat expectations. Although markets are higher this morning, there are reasons to be cautious. Firstly, Google’s results were mixed with their share price plunging in after hours trading, and secondly the overnight bomb blasts in Jakarta have also forced investors on the defensive, putting the brakes on gains in financial markets this morning.

Fixed Odds Bet Today

As we saw in early trading yesterday, investors have reverted to risk averse mode, moving to safer assets overnight. The yen and dollar are in demand with the pound and Aussie dollar particularly out of favour with investors. There is little by the way of economic announcements this morning apart from US building permits at 12.30. The pound vs dollar has been one of the morning’s biggest movers and if US building permits come in better than expected, the pound’s slump could continue. One way to play this might be a one touch trade with the trigger level set at around 1.6100. A One touch trade over three days could return 259% over this period.

It’s been a strong opening for the FTSE, CAC and DAX with the main European indices up between 0.5% and 1.2%. The prospect of higher than expected earnings from US companies is getting traders excited after Intel produced encouraging results late last night. Asian markets kept the momentum going and markets look set for another good day. We’ve a very busy day on the economic news front with UK claimant count change, average earnings and unemployment rate at 08.30 GMT. At 09.00 we get the release of European CPI numbers. At 12.30 we have the first of a stream of US economic announcements starting with US CPI, then various announcements leading up to the release of the last FOMC meeting minutes. Markets seem to be in a bullish mood and any one of these announcements could push shares even higher today.

My Fixed Odds Suggested Trade

The Euro is in play today on the currency markets, rising strongly against the dollar especially. With a steady stream of announcements due today that could impact on the dollar, and the euro vs dollar could be where the main price action is today. A two day expiry miss might be the best way to play this trade. An expiry miss wins if the pair is below your lower target or above your higher target within that time. Basically, as long as it moves out of a trading range and stays there, you win.

Unfortunately the new week offers no respite as the FTSE, DAX and CAC are all down by at least a third of a percent in the first hour of trading. Weekend economic sentiment drifted downwards as rumours of a second massive US stimulus package continue to grow. Today’s top economic announcement is the Bank of Canada business outlook survey at 14.30 GMT. In addition to this we have ECB president Trichet speaking at 10.30 GMT and the US Federal budget balance at 18.00. Perhaps more important than any standard economic announcement, is the start of US earnings season this week. Every quarter, US giants such as Microsoft and Apple release their latest numbers resulting in huge volatility in US stock markets as traders adjust their expectations. There is a fear that company profits will be even worse than previously expected which is one of the reasons behind recent falls.

My Fixed Odds Suggested Trade

The pound is under pressure this morning against the euro (-0.85%), the dollar (-0.88%) and the yen (-1.15%). The Aussie dollar is also out of favour, falling by similar amounts against the major currencies. Weakening commodity prices is a common factor with oil once again starting the trading session below $60. The pound is continuing to tumble this morning, making it my suggested fixed odds trade for today.

The GBP/USD (pound/US dollar) found support at 1.6000 on Wednesday, with the pair rebounding swiftly off this level. Now we’re heading for a retest and this time the 1.6000 level might not hold. A one touch trade might be a good way to play this, predicting that the GBP/USD will touch 1.5950 in the next 24 hours could return 120%. The level has to be touched just once for you to win.

There is a divergence in the fortunes of the FTSE, CAC and DAX in early trading this morning. The FTSE 100 is up a third, while the CAC and DAX are up 0.5% and 1% respectively. The commodity heavy FTSE is suffering as oil prices remain under pressure. This morning we have the ECB monthly bulletin at 08.00 GMT followed by UK trade balance at 08.30 GMT. Today’s top announcement is the Bank of England rate statement due at 11.00 GMT. Rates are highly likely to remain unchanged, but traders will be looking for some significant comments on quantitative easing from governor King that could spark some volatile action. Canadian housing starts follow 12.15 and US unemployment claims at 12.30 could also cause so big movements in North American markets.

Fixed Odds – Suggested Fixed Odds Bet Today

There was a huge increase in yen pairs yesterday and a corrective move is in place this morning. The yen increased by 3% against the dollar in just a few days, causing Japanese officials to blame speculators. The dollar is also under pressure as confidence returns to financial markets and the dollar’s safe haven status seems less attractive. Predictably the yen pairs are in play this morning with the EUR/JPY (Euro vs Japenese Yen) and GBP/JPY (Pound vs Yen) moving nearly 1% this morning alone. With a rate announcement due from the bank of England today, today’s pair in play is GBP/JPY. The GBP/JPY hit 146.75 and is now trading around 150, but for now the longer term trend is still intact and the 146.75 level could be revisited in the next couple of days. A good way to play this might be a one touch trade which returns a profit if the level is hit just once. At current levels a one touch trade predicting that the GBP/JPY will hit 146.75 in the next 4 days could return 183%.

USD vs CAD - Daily Candle Chart US Dollar Canadian Dollar

The FTSE, DAX and CAC are down by around a quarter of a percent at the open. Asian markets were weak overnight, with losses ultimately following the evening sell off in US markets. Wall Street slumped to a six week low as traders dismiss talk of green shoots. UK PM Gordon Brown has warned of a second wave in the recession and there are rumours of second massive stimulus package being required to kick start the US economy. Oil is a good barometer of economic sentiment and judging by the 5th consecutive session of declines in crude prices, the omens aren’t good. Today we have the UK Halifax House Price index at 08.00 GMT followed by Eurozone GDP at 09.00.

My Fixed Odds Trade

Currency markets are quiet so far today as traders adjust to the renewed strength in the dollar seen over the last few days. The yen pairs have seen the most action so far today with AUD/JPY the biggest mover after better than expected Australian home loans data. The biggest movement seen on a non yen pair is the USD/CAD (US Dollar/Canadian dollar) which is often influenced by the price of oil. So far the pair has moved less than the equivalent move in the price of crude and If oil keeps up the pace of declines, this relative inaction might not last. This makes the USD/CAD today’s pair in play. A break out trade can be a good way to trade a range bound market as the range cannot last forever. One way to play this would be a break out trade on the USD/CAD over 3 days with the lower level set as 1.1500 and the higher level set as 1.1850.

The effects of last weeks US employment numbers seem to linger, as all the equity markets are indicating a weak start to the week, and with no economic news out of the UK this morning, the FTSE 100 index is likely to open in the red this morning, as risk aversion returns to the markets. Crude oil fell to the lowest in five weeks on a stronger dollar and speculation that the ongoing recession in the worlds largest economy will curb the demand for oil. An attack on Nigerian oil fields has helped to provide some support for oil prices, however that might not hold for long should the bigger traders decide to sell their inventories during the trading session, and it seems likely that oil prices may test the 63 dollars per barrel level this week. Longer term the outlook remains bullish but in the short to medium term we may see a reversal followed by sideways consolidation following the recent bull rally.

My trading suggestion for today in the fixed odds market, is on the aussie dollar currency pair, and with the AUD/USD currently stuck in a 4 cent range between 0.7800 and 0.8200 for the last month, a 7 day barrier range bet on the AUD/USD with triggers at 0.7725 and 0.8250 which pays 38% ROI seems like a good value bet. The FTSE 100 index is currently indicating a flat open, as traders are wait for the release of the UK Purchasing Managers service index, due out shortly. With the US off for a long weekend for the 4th of July celebrations, this might be a very quiet trading session across all the markets, but in equities in the UK the FTSE 100 will need less then 30 points to finish the week in the positive territory.

Crude oil is heading for a third week of declines after a U.S. report showed unemployment in the worlds largest energy consuming nation last month rose to the highest in almost 26 years, with the release yesterday afternoon of the monthly NFP data. The numbers were far worse than forecast coming in at -467,000 against a forecast of -360,00, suggesting that the anticipated recovery is some way off. Meanwhile in Europe the ECB kept rates on hold once again, and as expected. Adding to yesterdays sell off were traders who had been buying heavily in oil futures, on speculation that the US employment data would improve. As a result there was a flight to the safe haven currencies of the US dollar and the Japanese Yen once again.

The euro vs dollar failed to breach the 1.4200 level in the last few weeks, but another run at the number is probably on the cards in the short term despite yesterday’s fall. The FTSE 100 is currently indicating a weak open, as traders are worried that yesterdays bad US ADP numbers will be matched by worse then expected US employment date today. Analysts pay close attention to the job numbers to figure out the health of the economy, and traders are betting that the numbers will disappoint, and fall below the forecast as with the ADP numbers yesterday. In addition we have the ECB interest rate decision and statement today, which is released at the same time as the NFP data in the US, so a double whammy this afternoon, which may seal the fate for the US dollar for the next few weeks as the FED and ECB battle it out in the currency markets, as to who wants the stronger or weaker currency and why.

Crude oil is currently trading around the 69 dollars per barrel mark after falling in the past two days, as demand for refined products in the U.S. remained weak and any hints of a recovery were thrown out the window after really weak employment data from US.
